For January 2012 Microsoft owned and operated Bing and Microsoft driven Yahoo combined to actually lose market share in the United States to search king Google. It would seem that the latest changes in Bing advertisement and promotion strategy did not develop any serious audience. Microsoft keeps pouring billions into Bing promotion with little change resulting. This leads us to the likely conclusion that search engine use is solely defined by the quality of the product. Google’s search engine is still the best.
While the duo of Bing and Yahoo has been struggling to achieve Google parity in the US, Google has been an overwhelming success in the UK. They have consistently owned over 90% of all search engine queries in the United Kingdom. In the US the answer to this same dominance was supposed to be the use by Yahoo of the Bing search engine for results. It has been a qualified success.
Now after a wait of almost two years the integration of Bing search into Yahoo, results in the United Kingdom are at hand. Bing and Yahoo are set to slice into the Google UK profit pie. Don’t count on this happening. UK users are extremely fond of Google for finding both information and products. Over 81% of all large ticket buying decisions made in the UK involve a search session on Google. Don’t look for this habit to change anytime soon.
Yes, the British, Scottish and Irish like the Yahoo portal. Most people in the world use Yahoo for news and entertainment information. But when it comes to spending money, Google is first consulted.
